Nico broke his last 'date' with Mary, and they hadn't planned their next meeting after that. Dread anticipation hangs over him, knowing he'll have to tell Mary they're over, forever, but days pass without the actress trying to contact him. Maybe when she saw him out with Jackie that night, after he told Mary's assistant he had a family emergency, maybe that was enough for Mary and she's done with him....Nicolas wishes he could be done with her and return to his life with Jackie like Mary never happened. But it just keeps coming up. Jackie asks him how many other famous women she's likely to run into were former clients of his, she says she doesn't want to be surprised by anymore encounters like their running into Mary in Santa Monica. Nico half-laughs at the thought: once Jackie got it in her head that Mary once was his 'client', she elevated him to a status he never enjoyed. It would be funny, if the whole thing weren't so sordid, "I was never any kind of 'gigolo-to-the-stars' Jacky, it was more like the wives of the accountants to the stars," he explains, hoping she'll just drop it. But she has follow up questions: "How did you end up with Mary then? She's a pretty big star..." Jackie wants to know. Everything about the question makes him squirm & stammer...he can't tell the truth of course, but he wanted to be done now with the lies.

Nicolas gives up looking for answer, and just takes hold of Jackie & locks his arms tight around her and tells her the most important truth he knows, that he doesn't want to lose her. He didn't really mean to say it, it just came out as she rested her head up against his shoulder, loving him & trusting him even while he's dodging her question, and it came out in Italian. "It's alright, Nico, you're not going to lose me," she answers gently, letting him know shew understood. Her Italian gets better daily, especially now that Nico has been contributing to the lessons, still a little infuriated his brother has been doing his job, and embarrassed because he didn't think of it himself. "We're getting married in the summer," Jackie continues, "I was thinking June would be nice..."

Nico repeats that in his head a few times, making sure he heard that right, and when his head gives the clear signal, his body takes over. He'd begun to think they were going to be living in a kind of eternal engagement, with her putting off their marriage with any excuse: hearing her choose an actual month fills him with joy too passionate to contain.

Nicolas is full of happy thoughts of their future, "Let's honeymoon in Italy, let me take you to my home," Nico says, "My mother has never met Trillare...."

Nicolas assures himself that everything is going to be alright, he & Jackie will marry & have a beautiful life, and it really will be like Mary was nothing more than a former client after all. "I'm so happy," he says to her, repeating it in both English & Italian, "And I promise I'm going to make you happy too, Jackie." He's already broken several promises: now, he's conscious of himself as he speaks the words, reminding himself that he has to make good on them, this time. "I already am happy, Nico," she says, and he kisses her like they've just exchanged their vows.
