Nicolas admitted his guilt: he had to, because Andrea had already figured it out & wasn't going to believe anything else. He told Andrea he had disappeared with Mary, and he implied that it was a one night stand, something unexpected that happened, something Nico has never done before: there's no need for Andrea to know it has been an ongoing affair. "Just don't tell her what happened at the party," Nicolas begs his brother, speaking in their native tongue & careful not to use Jackie's name, so she doesn't ask him later what they were talking about.

"I'm not going to tell her, you are Nicolas. You've done a terrible thing, and you have to admit it & ask her forgiveness, Nico," Andrea answers, "You can't just sweep this under the rug." The last thing Nico wants is to tell Jackie about this, even if it had been just a one night stand: if she ever finds out he had an affair, she'll kill him.

"This is none of your business, Andrea," Nico says sharply, "Don't tell me what to do."

Jackie might not undrestand what they are saying, but she can tell they were arguing, and she tries to joke & lighten the mood while they sit to eat.

The brothers refrain from arguing during the meal, but that leaves them with nothing to say, and the silence seems louder than heated shouting.

Jackie isn't even completely out of the dining room before Andrea is back on him, "How can you even live with yourself after what you did?"
