There must be a reason for this, there is something here he must do, some lesson the universe is thrusting on him. It cannot be a coincidence that he's working with Astrid, it cannot be by chance that he has the job of standing face to face with her and speaking to her as his beloved sister. Gavin tries to submit willingly to the will of the universe, to be one with his own dharma. But he's had to sacrifice everything to this project, his freedom, his privacy, all of his time & energy committed to it, and now that the director has lost interest in his movie while he's courting some strange new actress he's taken up with, Gavin is losing his struggle with himself, and has started showing signs of temper when the scenes he's trying to accomplish are ruined by lack of attention from the director & his assistant. Today, his favorite poet, Eleanor's mother, is at his house for an afternoon party. Since he met Eleanor he's hoped he might have an opportunity to meet her illustrious parent, and now he can't be there because he has to reshoot a scene a he's shot now more times than he can count. He wishes he had never agreed to this.

That kind of regret is futile, he knows. He made a choice & now must take responsibility for the consequences. He's given up much of his time & freedom, but not all of it, and Gavin uses what time he does have to pursue his own interests. Unfortunately, Shay doesn't share his love of photography, he has to plead with her to pose for him & when she does finally agree to stand in front of his camera, all she does is stand.

"Shay, you're so gorgeous, I don't know why you're so uncomfortable in front of the camera," he says gently, trying to coax her into being a better model. "Gavin, I hate doing this. Why do you want to take pictures all the time?" Shay answers with her own question.

"It's what I do, Shay," Gavin replies, "All of my girlfriends have posed for me.."

Gavin leans forward to kiss her, but Shay pushes him away. "I'm not all your girlriends, Gavin," she says angrily

"Shay, I just don't see..." he starts to argue but she cuts him off. "Don't, Gavin. I don't want to hang around here taking pictures, I want to go out."
