Shay

Shay puts it out of her mind while she's doing Jade's fitting: the job is the important thing & Shay has to present herself positively if she's going to impress the model-actress. Gavin comes home with her, as they had planned before Astrid kissed him: Shay meant to save the fight for after they ate, and not ream him in front of Chloe, but it's been a long day and she finds that she just cannot hold it in anymore.

"I'm really tired of this crap with your ex-girlfriends all the time, Gavin," Shay says, breaking an awkward silence.

Shay finally is going to lay it down for Gavin. "Gavin, you let her kiss you right in front of me...do you even care about me at all?" she begins, and he replies that he didn't know Astrid was going to kiss him. As if that was the real issue. "That doesn't explain why you looked like you're in love with her when she did it, Gavin. And not just Astrid, the other one too, you're always all over her whenever she's around. You only pay attention to me if you don't have an ex-girlfriend nearby to play with," Shay continues, letting him know how she feels.

Gavin immediately starts with the hearts & flowers, telling her for the thousandth time that he's just friends with Xtina & that Shay is the one he loves. He says that a lot, but Shay wonders if all 'love' really means to him is a kind of friendship with sex involved. "That's just sweet talk, Gavin," Shay says, "If you love me, why do you look at Astrid the way you do? Why did you let her kiss you? Why did you try to kiss her that first day on the set?"

"I really didn't expect her to kiss me, Shay. But it is important for both of us to work through the hatred....." Gavin says. Shay can't believe him, what kind of moron wants to work on his relationship with his ex-girlfriend? The whole point of breaking up with someone is to stop working on a relationship that doesn't work....

And Shay decides that that is perhaps the best course for her. Even before he took the part in the movie, she hated the way Xtina would always be at their parties, the way he was so concerned about her lovelife. It's only gotten worse now that Astrid has scented the stardom in Gavin's future and has started playing games. "Look, I know you took this job for me, and you aren't really happy about that now. I feel awful for deserting you in the middle of it, but I'm tired of feeling like I'm just the girl you're sleeping with now," she says, genuinely pitying Gavin for the position he's put himself in. He did it for Shay's sake, and now that she has the job of her dreams, she wishes she could pay him back for that. But she can't stay with him just to try to protect him from Astrid, when he's sticking his own head into her trap. "You're breaking up with me," Gavin says flatly. "I'm sorry Gavin," Shay apologizes with a relieved sigh. It feels so good to be free!

"Listen, Gavin, we'll still be friends, okay?" Shay says, smiling, amused by the thought of finally joining all those ex-girlfriends he's overly friendly with. "And, I gotta say this, I think Astrid is playing you, you shouldn't trust her," Shay warns him affectionately. No one ever listens to that kind of advice, if he's convinced Astrid really wants to be his friend and refuses to see her for the cold-hearted, using bitch that she is, she'll be able to seduce him in record time, if that is the actress' intent. Either way, Shay means to clear of it, this is his life to ruin, his 'dharma' as he's explained to her a million times. Shay sends Gavin off to his fate, and starts sketching some costume designs for Jade.
