They have both been separately working on song ideas, and once they've settled into their restaurant both, it's all they can talk about at first.

After they order their meals, Nicolas pulls her in close & they forget about business for awhile.

Jackie tries some of her newly-learned Italian on Nicolas. He seems completely stunned when she tells him he has the face of an angel in his native tongue.

Mary then is seated in the booth across from them. She's alone, which seems a little strange to Jackie. No one goes out to a five star restaurant to eat alone, at least, no one like Mary Strong.

Something about Nico changes once Mary has sat down. He talks & eat almost like normal...like upstairs at the bar, his brief conversation with Mary was almost normal, but just off enough to make Jackie wonder. Jackie knows then in her gut that Mary Strong has slept with her man. Everyone in Hollywood must know he was a gigolo, Jackie thinks: what must people think of her for being with him? A blush of guilt rises on her then, ashamed to be thinking in a such a petty way about the man she loves: he's made mistakes, but things are different now & she can't be worrying about what people think about her...

After dinner they talk a walk out by the beach. "Nicolas, you've slept with her, haven't you?" Jackie confronts him, and Nico starts to stammer an answer. Jackie doesn't need to hear again how it's in the past, she's struggling with accepting that, as hard as it is. So she stops him, "I know that's in your past, Nico, it's just weird thinking this woman or that woman I'm going to run into is a former client of yours, and I feel weird when she looks at you, Nico."

"I promise, Jacklyn, they are all in the past & forgotten now. I love you and only you," Nicolas promises & kisses her. The only problem with his past is that it doesn't seem to want to stay in the past, and Jackie doesn't want it interfering with her future.
