Simlogical Classic Sims 2 Access

Sims 2 Color Keys System

This is for players who wish to identify their Sims into categories or classes that the game does not already recognise.  A typical use might be for social classes: Aristocrat, Serf etc.The core of this system is a set of 6 distinctively coloured tiny keys that can be kept in a Sim’s inventory as a visible item, or put into a room to restrict access to that room to holders of the appropriately coloured key, in conjunction with the hacked door (more door styles later, if there is a demand for them)

TwoJeffs’ Visitor Controller also recognises these keys, if you want to only have holders of certain coloured keys, only the “right sort” of Sims on a particular lot.

How to give a sim a key

  • You can buy one from the catalogue – Misc/Misc for §2 – then drag it into the Sim’s inventory
  • You can click on a ColorKeys door and get the menu to put one straight into your Sim’s inventory
  • You can get your community leader Sims to carry some spare keys to give out as gifts to other deserving Sims when they meet them anywhere.  This may be helpful on Community lots where you typically cannot access the inventory in the usual way
To use the door to give out a key, simply make the recipient Sim selectable, click on the door, and choose Give me key…  Then you get a submenu to choose which colour key.   It works the same in reverse, for removing a key from your Sim’s inventory.Update key requirements option is to make sure when you place a new key in a room, the door picks up the new restrictions.

Lock/Unlock are so you can release trapped Sims in an emergency.  When the door is unlocked, keys are not required.

.
.How to restrict access to a roomOnly the special hacked door understands this system, so if you have other doors into the room, the Sims will simply use those instead if they don’t have the right key.

Simply place a key of the right colour in the room – anywhere.  That’s right, just the same key that the Sims have in their inventories.  If you place a green key in the room, Sims with green keys can get in.  If you place a green *and* a blue key in the room, Sims with either a green key, or a blue key, or both, will be able to get in.   If there are no keys in the room at all, the door will act as if unlocked.

You could have the door between two rooms, one of the rooms could have a magenta key, and one could have a red key.  Then Sims with a Magenta key could go through the door one way, while red key holders could go through it the other way.

Note on the diagonal door

Because diagonal doors only have one tile, the door will decide it’s in either one room or the other.  That means if it decides it is in the room with the blue key, only blue keyholders will be able to go through it at all, in either direction, even if there is no key the other side.  You may be able to turn this to your advantage once you have found out which room the door thinks it is in.  I mainly included a diagonal version so that if you accidentally placed the straight door on a diagonal wall it does not revert to the EAxis original door forcing you to buy it again.

NB The door and the diagonal take all recolours of the original Justa Door.

DownloadYou need the keys zip (which contains 6 package files).  The door download is optional – you may wish to use these keys only with TJ’s Visitor Controller.

This hack may be compatible with games that do not have AL or FT but has not been tested with earlier games.

PUSHED GREET PATCH ijPushedGreetPatchSeasons.zip   (contains game overrides)

I found a line in the code for Sims ringing a doorbell which put the greet action on the queue of a Sim who was in the house.  The line was not joined up so it did not run.  I simply joined it up again.   You can still cancel it out of the resident Sim’s queue if you don’t want him to answer the door.

GENDER and 4-KEY LOCKING for NORMAL DOORS and GATES ijAddGender4KeyLock_Seasons.zip   (contains game overrides)

ijAddGender4KeyLock_BVv2.zip (contains game overrides) (NB Hotel room doors are a seperate object and will not show the key and gender menu, and there is specific Maxis code to prevent you locking other doors on hotels even though the key menu shows)

ijAddGender4KeyLock_AL.zip  (contains game overrides) (NB Apartment front doors are a seperate object and will not show the key and gender menu)

The patch adds some extra options to a door’s locking menu

Update 25th April 2008 – ijAddGender4KeyLock_BVv2 is the update to ijAddGender4KeyLock_BV.  Enhancements are:

Easier:
For each key, the first option offered will be a submenu of sims actually on the lot.  Most of the key allocation will be to family members etc so it’s easier to find them here than scrolling through to their family first.  Sims currently on the lot will appear in two submenus – the “on the lot” one as well as by their family group.

Quicker:
The menu for key 2 is not built if key 1 is still going spare, nor the menu for key 3 if either key 1 or key 2 are spare and so on.  This will make the menu display more quickly after clicking on the door.

Make sure you delete the old version before installing the new.

4-Key Locking: Choose keyholders from list of sims by family, or from “On the lot…” if the required Sim is present at the time.  Keyholder locked mode comes into play only when the Maxis option “Lock/Me only” is chosen.  The sim that was the active sim when locking the door is allowed through in addition to the stored keyholders, so use a keyholder to lock the door if this is not wanted.  Please note that unlike my standalone 4-key doors, this door will be locked from both sides.  Also, unlike my standalone doors, this is only as reliable as the normal Maxis locking, which as we know sims sometimes ignore and go through anyway.

Gender Locking: allows you to make it into a restroom door by selecting “males only” or “females only”.   These options are in addition to the normal options.   So if you choose “females only” and then “lock to family and employees only”, the only sims who can use it will be female members of the family and female employees.  To remove the gender restriction, use “either gender” from the menu.  The “unlock” option does not remove the gender restriction.

These extra options will not appear on any of the four Maxis restroom doors.

Note:  This patch must be removed before installing future EPs and you should check back here for an update.

It will work unpredictably with other door or routing hacks such as Pescado’s APO or my Security/Apartment System.  It should work fine with most custom doors that are just new meshes and not hacked.

NO UNSETTING ROUTEBLOCK FLAGSIf locked doors (hacked or original) appear to be letting Sims see what is behind them and try to get to things, your routeblocking flag may be becoming unset.  After installing this patch, you may need to unlock and lock the troublesome door/s again, or even buy them again in order to pick up the change.

ijNoSetUnlockedPatch.zip   (contains game overrides)

This seemed to be fixed in the game during Pets and Seasons, and has become a problem again in Bon Voyage. The Bon Voyage version of the patch also sets the flags correctly at a time that a sim goes through the door, to reduce the need to rebuy or relock.

Sims 2 4-Keyholder Doors (all games)

These doors are set up via their menus and you have to have the wall up to click on the door.  The Sim you want to give the key (either resident or visitor) has to be on the lot at the time, but can come and go after that and still keep the key.   The door can be set unlocked, when anyone can use it, or locked, when only keyholders and NPCs can use it.All locking is one-way only, to reduce incidence of non-keyholding Simmies getting trapped in a room they are not meant to be in when you lock the door. Place with green arrow pointing in towards restricted area.  Sims will always be free to exit even while entry is restricted.

Hack does not work when the door is placed diagonally.  This is because when the door is placed diagonally, it actually becomes a different object.  I have decided not to offer the diagonal option for the time being because I can foresee various complications and cannot yet think of a very good way round them.  For similar reasons, the door may lose its settings or become unsynchronised between the two sides if you try to move it after setting up keyholders.

Suitable for all games as long as you realise they totally ignore the Maxis tests for door locking, and probably do not understand Pets.  For this reason these doors are not recommended for the main external door or for bathrooms as it does not run the Maxis code that deals with the arrival of visitors and bathroom privacy.

NB doors offer original range of colours, but do not use custom recolours made for their Maxis counterparts.

Sims 2 Targetable Doors (all games)

These doors are set up via their menus and you have to have the wall up to click on the door.  The menu allows you to ban various types of Sim, like ban all males, all toddlers, all visitors etc.   Then on top of that you can at any time use the menu to unlock the door and let any Sim through, lock it so that no Sim can go through, or leave it in the in-between state so that just your specified types of Sims can use it.

Suitable for all games as long as you realise they do not know about types of Sims introduced after Uni.

NB doors offer original range of colours, but do not use custom recolours made for their Maxis counterparts.

Sims 2 Security System

Requires are least one EP.  A system of wall-mounted detectors that control access to individual rooms on a lot.   These can be formed into groups that control several rooms as one, if desired.  Sims can be excluded or admitted based on name (keyholders) or sim type (age, gender etc), and if you have the Uni EP, you can set up a timer to switch between access levels at different times of the day.

You need one of these per lot that you wish to use the Security/Apartment system on.

SECURITY CONTROLLER SHRUB

ijSecurityControllerShrub.zip (no globals)

Works the same as the wall-mounted controller, but you can use this outdoors.  It is alright to have both controllers on a lot, but you would not want both of them to be doing automated security checks together.

APARTMENT TOKEN ijSecurityToken.zip (no globals)

Use one or more of these in each room you wish to control

BATHROOM DOOR Bathroom0PanelDoor.zip (no overrides)

Place this door with the green arrows pointing into the bathroom.   When a Sim enters the bathroom, the door locks behind them and no one else, not even NPCs, can get in.  When the Sim comes out, the door is left unlocked ready for the next person.  Occasionally, if Sims pass each other on the way in or out, the door will be accidentally left unlocked while one is in there.  If you then get more than one Sim in the bathroom, each time one leaves they will leave the door unlocked behind them, which means another Sim can walk in on the remaining one, and so on and so on, just like in real life.    Any time you want, you can use the door’s menu to lock or unlock it if the Sims have messed things up in this way, but it’s not necessary, it will sort itself out when the last of the bunch leave.   Needless to say, this door is not effective in two-door bathroom layouts!

The door has the additional bonus of stopping toddlers entering by themselves, to keep them from the toilet, whilst allowing them to leave freely.  This means they can be carried in for their bath, and let themselves out if they are put down in the room afterwards.

Does not work on diagonal

FAMILY-ONLY DOOR FamilyDoor.zip

Only allows members of currently selected family to pass.  On residential lot this means the Sims who live on that lot (not family members from other lots).  On community lots, the family who you are controlling have sole use of the door.

ONE-WAY ARCH OneWayJustArch.zip  (no overrides)

STUDENTS-ONLY StudentDoor0panel.zip (no overrides)

Intended for use in dormitory houses, to stop your invited guests from the home neighbourhood escaping into the inaccessible dorms of game-generated students.  Use one of these doors to close off the corridor to the bedrooms. When locked, allows only Young Adults and NPCs to pass in one direction while allowing anyone back out in the other direction so that they can’t get trapped.   Unlock if and when you do wish free access to the bedrooms.   Place with green arrow pointing into designated students-only area.

Here are some recolour files for the “Justa” door to match the wood of the Myne door.  The recolours also apply to other existing Simlogical “Justa” door clones as well as the Maxis original.
