Xtina

Eleanor is too nice of a person & too good of a friend to stay angry at Xtina, so she calls the next day to invite her for coffee. While Xtina kind of wants to stay home & wait for Gavin (maybe) to call, she's been cooped up in her lonely building for two days now & she's getting to the point where she'd even engage her neighbor, Esme, in conversation, since she's the only one actually in town this week, it seems. (The day Xtina talks to someone who thinks Britney Spears is talented will be the day hell freezes over.) So Xtina meets Eleanor in the cafe, but her foul mood infects her conversation & even the normally polite Eleanor has had about enough of it.

"Xtina, you broke up with Gavin like a month ago...you should be happy he's finally stopped calling you. Or get over yourself & call him & tell him you want him back, if you miss him so much. You know Gavin, he won't rub it in your face or anything, if you can manage to be nice about it, that is." Eleanor is right of course, but Xtina is not quite ready to accept that. She still hopes if she waits it out long enough, Gavin will eventually break down & call her first. Then, she won't have to apologize....

Xtina goes back to he apartment & has some dinner. As she's finishing up, Coby comes in unexpectedly. He's been in Colorado, doing a snowboard competition & just hanging out & boarding. He won 2nd place & he's bursting with excitement about it, telling Xtina he wants to have a big party to celebrate. Normally, Xtina doesn't give Coby, the happy friendly blond Valley boy, the time of day, but a lot of things are changing for Xtina now that she's cut herself off from her friends from school.

After Coby is finished enthusing about his big win, all the fun he had & all the tricks he did, he looks at Xtina & says "Hey, you're looking more glum than usual...what's up? What did I miss?" Xtina rarely talks about herself to her neighbors...she can barely stand to talk to them at all usually. But Coby's never met Gavin & Xtina can tell him how she's bummed about being broke up with her boyfriend without having to hear how it is all her fault & how she's the only one who can fix it, by giving in & calling him.

Of course, Coby also doesn't really have any useful advice on the topic, either, except to say, "Dude, bummer," and then try to cheer her up by tickling her. Any other time, that would have earned him a slap in the face. Any other time, but right now, Xtina is starting to cry, so she rushes away to her room, to be alone. Again.
