Xtina

The living conditions become intolerable. Rainier comes in on her in the kitchen while Coby is microwaving some lunch, and kisses her. It makes her uncomfortable to see Coby embarassed like that, but her giggled, girlish admonishment to Rainier isn't going to stop him. She doesn't know how much longer she'll be able to live like this, always afraid of who might be around the corner, about to come into the room.

"Check this out, Ti, my friend Tanner found a sweet 2 bedroom in Venice, not like 3 blocks from the beach. I'll be out of here by May 1st," Coby tells her, running into her in the hall. Uncomfortable as the situation is, she Coby & Rainier all living on the same floor of this apartment building, Xtina is devastated to hear it. "You're leaving?" she asks, her voice trembling. She's going to start crying, she knows it...

His hand is rough & warm on her shoulder, "I'm just going to Venice, Ti, to live near the ocean. You don't need me around here getting in the way. It just makes you sad...I can't stand to see you so sad, Ti, it makes me want to kiss you, and you don't want that, right?" It didn't take long, the tears are flowing out of her. She feels so awful...he reaches into his pocket and pulls out a piece of paper, and places it in her hand, saying "Here, Ti, this my number, my cell number. You can call me anytime you need me for anything, okay?" This is the number he never gives to anyone, the one for surf & snow conditions only. "Yeah, Ti, that number. You're that important, okay? I want to be your friend. So, call me sometimes, okay?"

The hug seems so final, though he'll still be in the building a few days. Who knows if she'll run into him alone again, however, so it's best to get the goodbye done with. "I will call you Coby," she promises."You've been the best."
