After ditching Arthag, Shay does run into Gavin for a moment by the buffet. Shay has no idea what he actually does when he comes to these parties on his own mission to 'freak them out' as he puts it, but he is as good as his word tonight, and behaving completely normal. After she finishes her dessert, he tells her that he saw Monica on the second floor balcony, smoking, so that is where Shay heads next. One more time, Gavin whispers in her ear before she heads up the steps, "Remember, you are the most beautiful woman in this room tonight, and you are smarter than the whole lot of them together..." Does he mean that, she wonders, or is he just saying it to boost her confidence? Either way, it does the job, Shay gets shivers just having his lips come so close to her face...

Monica, the editor of WhooNoo magazine, is indeed smoking on the balcony & though she doesn't usually smoke herself, Shay joins her for a cigarette. At first Monica is polite enough, not exactly warm or friendly, but polite. Then Shay tells her about wanting to show her her designs & everything goes badly from there. Monica isn't here to meet little nothings like Shay, & she dismisses the poor young designer with a huffy wave of her cigarette. Shay is crushed as she runs back downstairs to find Gavin to take her home before she breaks down & cries in front of the whole party. Shay looks everywhere, in the game room, by the buffet, but barely able to see anything at all through the tears forming in her eyes, she cannot find Gavin: what if he did get kicked out? How would she find him, she wonders? Then, he appears by her side suddenly as though he were hiding in the shadows. "Are you okay?" he asks her quietly, taking her hand. Shay shakes her head as the tears start falling. Gavin leads her out of this place & into his car, where they sit for a moment as Shay tells him what happened with Monica, how she called her a 'little nothing'. "I'm so sorry, Shay," Gavin says, searching through his glove box until he finds her a pack of tissues to dry her tears. "It's not your fault," Shay sighs, the tears finally stopping their flow, "You only did what I asked you to..."

"Let's go get a drink," he suggests as he starts his car. As Shay starts feeling better & her tears dry up, she notices that Gavin seems upset about something of his own...did bringing her out with him ruin his night, she wonders? "What did you do all night?" she asks him quietly as they drive through the Beverly Hills east towards the Sunset Strip. "I...mingled," he answers, somewhat shortly & Shay considers telling him to just drop her home & skip having a drink if he doesn't want to be with her now. But he continues before she can say anything, "I met a very important woman in the art world tonight, Mercedes Arthag, she owns a Beverly Hills art gallery. I tried to take advantage of the situation by introducing myself, but.....she wanted something else from me. I'm not used to being treated like that...." he says, somewhat vaguely, but Shay gets his meaning right away. "I think I met her husband, Bill Arthag, he kind of hit on me too," she shares with him the other major event of her evening. "I know," Gavin answers, suprising her. How does he know, was he spying on her? She turns to look at him, and he continues, "Bill Arthag approached me just before you came back downstairs, he wanted....he wanted for us to 'swing' with him & Mercedes," he says, spitting the words out as though they dirtied his mouth. And then he pulls up in front of the Good Luck club.

Tonight has been a whole bunch of strange & new experiences for Shay, some, like her encounter with Monica, were pretty bad, but some others, like having a man like Gavin whisper in her ear the the things that whispered, were the most incredible experiences of her young life. Shay wonders if she'll ever hear such things from Gavin's lips again & she can't help but wonder about the ex-girlfriend, did he tell her she was a goddess? What kind of woman could let a man like that go once she'd gotten him? As they sit at the bar & order some drinks, Shay asks Gavin about his break up, and if he's still feeling 'toxic'.

Gavin then opens up & tells her everything, how his ex broke up with him, but kept him hanging for over a month, about their last fight, when she slapped him, made love to him one last time & then left. "I haven't spoken to her since," he finishes with a sigh. That's the best news Shay's heard all night.
