Serena

She meets Byron on set the next day, where they are building a set for a library scene.

"Serena, do you remember what we said, back when we split up to do our own thing?" he says to her as he turns to greet her, "We said real love wouldn't fade over a long separation. I still love you, I never stopped loving you, Serena. And I can see you still love me. What is keeping you from admitting it?" He was always like that, even before he had teams of people paid to hang on his every word, asking probing questions out of nowhere. It was a big part of what she finds so attractive about him, even though it is often uncomfortable to be on the receiving end of his questions.

"Byron, I'm not afraid to admit I love you, you are the only man I ever have loved. But I don't want this Hollywood business to be part of my life. Doing this everyday is difficult for me Byron. I wouldn't have done it if not for my premonitions, which I've been starting to doubt..." she says to him, proving exactly how unafraid she is to tell him how she feels.

He looks hard at her for a moment, then puts his hands on her shoulders. "Don't doubt them yet, Serena...I've been having...bad feelings myself lately about this. Please, Serena, I need you to stay with me on this." Serena looks into his eyes: she's never seen him afraid of anything before, but now she sees the ghost of fear haunting his face, making him look tired & gaunt. "What kind of feelings, Byron?" Serena asks, concerned now. But before he can answer, his assisstants seem to crawl out of the woodworks, with questions, information. Serena loses him to his movie again.

Tonight the set is much less tense, and the scene is finally shot to Byron's satisfaction, after several tries. The crew is sent home in a happier mood: tomorrow they move onto another scene.

As the last of his crew leaves, Byron kisses her, taking her by surprise. It has become a habit of his lately, as it is becoming her habit to give in just a little before she resists. "Byron, please," she starts to protest as she pulls away. "Let me come home with you, Serena," he murmurs, pulling her back toward him, "I'm not asking for much, Serena, I just want to hold you until I have to get up & shoot the next scene." Serena pulls out of his grasp again & backs away. "No, Byron, I can't let you do that," she says turning away & walking out before he can get hold of her again.
