Serena

Serena doesn't go back to sleep that night, and before the night is over, Byron shows up at her door, exhausted after his movie shoot. Serena makes him dinner, or maybe breakfast at this hour, and listens as he tells her all his problems with the movie. His actors don't get along, it seems. And, absent-minded as he often is, he forgot to tell him when & where his shoots are scheduled, so she can be there for him. Serena wants to be at his side because she's gotten omens warning her there is trouble on his horizon. She's not sure what he thinks she can do for him, however. "I could have ssorn I told you where this shoot was...I wanted you to be there," he sighs. He looks so worn out, Serena insists he go upstairs & sleep a few hours before he drives anywhere.

Byron sleeps in her bed while Serena writes some notes about her dream of Larna Lock in her joural. As the sun starts to rise, she hears him stir. He's very quiet, and she knows what he's going to do next: he's going to try to sneak up on her & grab her journal. It's a game they played when they were young lovers. He was never able to get her journal or snatch her pen, she always sensed him coming. She stands up now, snapping her journal closed, just as he rests his hands on her shoulder.

"You win again, Serena," he says with a laugh, but as he kisses her Serena wonders if she really is the winner of that game.

"We can't keep doing this," she says, pulling away from him. She thinks suddenly of Larna Lock, the strange man in her dream, and the image disturbs her. Byron whispers flirtatiously in her ear: Serena struggles to get away, finally running downstairs to make some tea. Before Byron leaves he promises to have assistant call with information. He runs off onto his busy schedule, leaving Serena to wonder at the chaos her life is becoming since he came back into her life.

Byron's assistant calls Serena as promised & she she drives up to Hollywood Hills for the shoot. The grounds are identical to those in her dreams with Byron and with the strange Larna Lock. Serena feels a rush of fear, as though Larna Lock could jump out from behind a tree at any time. Byron greets her with a hug, like he senses her fear. "The shoot is upstairs, on the balcony," he says.

It seems to not go very well, Byron is not happy with the results. Serena can sense the tension in the lead actor. He once loved the actress & she hurt him badly. And she...Serena recoils at Astrid's bitterness & anger. Clearly, Byron has a problem with his actors, but Serena is not here to counsel them: she's on the look out for something more supernatural. But it is an ordinary film shoot, as far as Serena can tell, the only problems being of natural, human origin. Her premonitions had been so dire, but now she is startig to feel silly & useless here, doubting her own abilities in this case.
