Gavin

The movie continues to bring its unwanted changes into Gavin's life. He shows up at Shay's place at the exact time he said he'd be there & he since she seems to be running late, because she isn't home, he cooks dinner for her. But she is hours late, leaving Gavin waiting with a cold dinner. He reads his script over again while he waits. He's starting to hate it, hate his character. Because there is something a little too close to home in him, the way he condemned his human lover to eternity in Hell because she rejected his offer to live with him & make her a goddess. It's like reliving his break up with Astrid, he feels again the same bitter resentment he felt when she left him, and though he doesn't believe in Hell, he would easily send Astrid to burn there, if he had the kind of powers his character, the lord of Dream, has. And as his character struggles with the regret of having left a former lover to rot in Hell for 10,000 years, so Gavin is struggling with himself, knowing how much anger he carries within him, and how those feelings damage a person...his character will have to go to Hell and confront Lucifer to redeem himself...Gavin doesn't like to think what he will have to go through before he can forgive Astrid, and forgive himself for hating Astrid.
When Shay finally gets home, it's like she forgot he'd be here, and she blames her job.

They eat his cold dinner & sit in front of the TV to chat. Gavin tells her how he feels about the script, that he's not comfortable playing this part. But Shay hasn't read it at all, she's working entirely from some comic book pages the PA gave her, and her imagination. "Gavin, you'll be great in this film. You're the best looking guy I ever seen, even in movies, and you're not shy, I don't see what the problem is," she says to him, not understanding how difficult it is going to be for him to have to act certain cenes with Astrid, because he has yet to tell her about Astrid. He can't find the words for it, like having to memorize all these lines for a character has taken his ability to speak for himself.

The evening did not have a great start, but it could still have a great end...Gavin leans in to kiss Shay's neck, and stroke her breast. "Gavin," she sighs, pushing his hand away, "I'm just really tired tonight, okay? Can we do this some other night?" Gavin pulls himself away, pacing around her studio. He wants to understand that she is just tired, and that if he gives her some space, all will be fine. But he changed his whole life so she could have this opportunity: it galls him that it's now getting in the way of their relationship.

"I'm doing this all for you Shay, and now you want me to leave?" he asks as she gets up to follow him. "I want you to stay," she says, running her fingers through his hair, she's just too tired to make love now. In the morning she says, smiling at him. He's letting it get to him, he thinks. He can't let it get to him...
