Of course there's traffic: PCH was backed up for miles & the drive from Topanga to Santa Monica never seemed so long. Coby shows up at the beach bar where he told Nina he'd meet her tonight way late. He expected Nina to be bitchy & pissed, if she wasn't actually gone by the time he showed up, but she actually just showed up herself, and is in a really good mood. Coby came prepared for whatever, even kind of looking forward to a cold shower after an afternoon with Ti: instead he got the extra hottie version of Nina, looking too good in her tight sparkly top & short flippy skirt, and totally into the beach & surfing tonight, none of the negativity he experienced on their first date.

She's really into guys that work out, guys with tight abs & nice arms.

Coby has all that, it's a byproduct of all the training. He does it for the surfing: you have to be fit to take the big waves. But chicks dig it too, a huge bonus.

They take a seat & order some more beers. Coby is wondering how long they have to be out before he can get her home, preferably her home, because it's easier to take off than it is to kick them out. Nina answers the unasked question: she tells him she can't stay out much longer tonight, she'd like to go back to his place, but she has to go home, alone, & soon. She quiets up as the barmaid puts their beers on the table, waiting for privacy so she can tell him she's married, her husband has been away on business & arrived home a day earlier than expected. She lays the whole story on him, blah blah blah about her unsatisfying relationship. It goes in one ear & out the other until she gets to the important point: she can't really go on 'real' dates with him, more like sneaking around during her lunch hours and whenever she can get away.

Coby could be any guy, she's looking for someone to scratch her itch, and that's it. It's perfect, exactly what he's looking for. He isn't getting any tonight, but he's getting it soon. It's all she's after & she'll never want to spend the night. Maybe it will help him get over Ti, maybe not, but it will feel good trying.
