Astrid

Astrid gives an awesome performance, and she is surprised, at first, at how well Gavin is doing. She never thought he could act. He couldn't even lie properly.

"Maybe she didn't want to be a goddess, Little Brother. Did you ever consider that? Anyway, condemning her to an eternity in Hell, just because she turned you down.....That's a really shitty thing to do." Astrid speaks her lines, her favorite lines in the film. It is her moment & she makes it perfect.

"Astrid, I am so sorry," Gavin breathes quietly, completely breaking out of character, ruining Atrid's perfect scene. And he tries to grab her & kiss her, but she stops him with a slap to the face. "Gavin, you ass, I'm playing a part here. This isn't about us, there was never an 'us' for it to be about. The whole time I was with you, I was screwing her, too," Astrid yells at Gavin, gesturing at Alison.

Byron is out of his chair & yelling at them right away. First, he talks to his 'star', Gavin, "Gavin, I don't know what that was about, but if you have something going on with Astrid you can't deal with, we can get another actress," he says & Astrid is crushed. She's worked all her life to get a part like this, and now it is in Gavin's hands if she gets to keep it. It's humiliating.

"I expect you to be better than that, Astrid. You're a professional, if he breaks down & makes it personal, don't respond to it. If you're going to stay in this project, you'll have to be on my side & help him through it, understand?" Byron lectures her. Astrid pouts, "I understand." Byron has a reputation for getting romantically involved with his lead actresses, and Astrid has ideas about what she could accomplish from the bed of a powerful man like him. But he's not in the mood to flirt with her at the moment: he goes off to talk to Alison.

So Astrid goes down to the dressing room to tell Gavin off. "You! My one important scene in this whole freaking movie, and YOU turn it into some dramafest about yourself! You should have gotten over it a long time ago, it should not be coming back to haunt me now!" She wishes she'd never had anything to do with this infuriating man.

Gavin actually dares to poke her in the chest. "I'm over you, Astrid, I'm just not over how much I hate you," he says, angry. "You knew how much I loved you & you broke my heart. You weren't even serious about me, sleeping around with Alison, treating me like some kind of plaything..." At first outraged at the affront, Astrid then decides she's above being taunted by Gavin.

"Oh, boohoo," Astrid pretends to cry, and then looks up, rolling her eyes & snorting with disdain. "You're pathetic," she says. It seems like she's played this scene with Gavin a thousand times already, throughout her miserable relationship with him.

It's an affront to Astrid's lifetime dedication to acting that Gavin should be the star of her movie, and that he should be in charge of if she stays or goes. While she feels the natural instinct of a Hollywood actor to grovel before the one that holds her fate in her hands, Astrid cannot grovel to Gavin. Though she is risking her whole career, she throws him a challenging glance, and attacks him where it will hurt the most. "Let's hang out again real soon, I'm sure we have so much to talk about," Astrid giggles as she squeezes Shay into her arms. "I'll give you a call," she hugs her new best friend good night, and finds Chloe to fix her make up for her. She's going to look great, act her part splendidly & ingratiate herself to Byron, maybe even seduce him, and, behind the scenes, she will get her revenge on Gavin.
