Virus Advice

Currently, simply downloading and extracting .zip files is not a means by which you can catch a virus.  .iff files do not currently carry a risk either.

If you seem to be having weird effects when unzipping a download from any site, a virus already on your system is a possibility.  This could be one that has infected your unzipper program (e.g. WinZip) itself.

N.B. Self-installing downloads, usually a .exe, *may* infect your computer under some circumstances, and so can running a executable file that was inside a .zip   To view a document safely, instead of double-clicking on it, first open the application it should be viewed with, and load it in using the application's "Open" menu option.  .doc files may still carry a risk, however, and should be avoided from unreliable sources.
