Jackie

Jackie has been getting used to waking up feeling sick these past weeks. She's been blaming it on the whiskey & the stress..but she didn't drink at all last night. And making love to Nico all night was a major stress reliever...whenever she's with him, she feels like she's on a cloud. Except right now, waking up to a horrid wave of nausea...she runs straight down to the bathroom on the 1st floor. She'd rather Nico didn't hear her throw up.

When she mets Nico in her kitchen he gives her one of those fiery Italian kisses that make her so crazy for him. And he even offers to cook her breakfast...Jackie would like to believe she's the luckiest, happiest girl in the world, but she's having a hard time coming to terms with his past, believing that he really loves her & not her fame & money...While commenting on the scarcity of food in her fridge, he still manages to cook an excellent breakfast, which she can barely stomach, still feeling nauseous after throwing up. "Hey, it's not that bad, is it?" he asks, and she feels so bad about it that it's a relief when her breakfast is interrupted by the phone. Even though it's Bill Arthag. "Feeling better this morning?" Bill asks smugly. Of course, he doesn't know how sick she's been feeling lately, he's just making a crude sexual innuendo, knowing that he left Nico in her house. So he doesn't bother to wait for her to answer before she tells him she he's gotten her a gig as the musical guest on the Charlie Chatterbox show. No, not as a band, she's going to have to sing with Charlie's house band backing her up. "Don't even bother bringing your bass, you're just singing. And get ready now, I'm sending a limo ASAP: they tape this show early." When she goes to tell Nico she has to go out, she feels this sudden fear, like if she lets him out of her sight, he'll take off. So she asks him if he'll wait here for her. "Of course I'll wait...or should I go to the grocery store for you while you're out?" he offers.

Unhappy with the way Arthag keeps trying to make her just a singer, unhappy with the damn media spreading rumors about her & even revealing what she never wanted known, that her father is a famous country musician, and even still a little unhappy about Nico, who she loves but is afraid to trust, given his past...Jackie decides to do something very different with this gig Bill forced on her. Luckily, Charlie Chatterbox's house band has a sense of humor & are talented musicians. In a few hours of rehearsing, they are able to work up a version of 'Crazy' by Patsy Cline that starts out in the traditional way, but then speeds up into the kind of fast metal/punk Jackie is known for.

Jackie's gotten quite good at playing herself up for TV cameras.
|

Of course, there are media people here, paparazzi and bigwigs. And Jackie herself is pretty bigtime now, and she knows it. So when she sees Monica, the editor of WhooNoo magazine, who printed the story about who her dad is, who got Nico to do that first interview that made her look like a lush, Jackie decides to give her a piece of her mind.
|

Jackie can see & hear the camera flashbulbs popping as Monica does a weird taunting dance. "You think you're all that," Monica laughs, "I've been in this business much longer than you, and I control what gets said about you, so you better watch yourself, watch what you say to me, little whore. Be careful, or I'll tell the world about what your 'Italian Stallion' really is. Hell, even I've had him, Jackie. I paid him to give it to me in a clothing booth, right after I got him to agree to that interview." All the wind gets knocked out of Jackie, and her stomach twists in nausea & pain. As she's throwing up in the dressing room, it occurs to Jackie that she can't remember when her last period was. Everything after her time in the mountains with Nico is pretty much a blur, but she can't remember having a period since then. And she doesn't know how long ago that even was....
