Ask anybody & they'll tell you, if you can be famous & wealthy, then every hapiness is yours. But Jackie grew up with a famous & wealthy father, an extraordinary pedal steel guitarist reknowned in the world of country music, and she knows first hand the kind of misery that often passes for hapiness in the lives of the rich & famous. Classically trained on several instruments from childhood, Jackie has only ever wanted to play music for a living, but without replicating her father's life, from which she fled while still just a teenager. She lived & played in bands in L.A. for a few years before making it big, never once drawing on her father's name or connections, using the pseudonym Jackie Oh! to hide her identity. So, from the moment her band F Hole got signed to BMC, & made their hit video for MTV, Jackie's growing celebrity & wealth have been of great concern to her. Can she handle herself any better than her father did? Can she be a star & a decent person at the same time?

These questions trouble her on a daily basis, but when she thinks about Nico, her gorgeous Italian lover, they trouble her most. She met him before her band got signed, before she got famous, when they were equally nobody in the rock world, both in bands playing gigs in the circuit of L.A.s rock clubs. Jackie had fallen for Nico from the first, but Nico had never noticed Jackie at all until her band got their video on MTV. Then, he was willing to listen to her, spend time with her. Indeed, he had become something of a lap dog for her, coming whenever she whistled for him, ready to go anywhere & do anything she asked, even spending a week with her locked in a secluded mountain retreat when the pressure of touring got to be too much for her. Sometimes, Jackie thinks cynically about Nico, that he could just as easily be replaced with any one of the countless men who want to be with her now that she is a rock goddess. But sometimes she has softer thoughts, when she remembers being in his arms, & the sweet things he whispers to her while they are making love. More than anything, she'd like to know how he really feels, if he would ever have noticed her if she hadn't gotten famous.

After her little tryst in the mountains with Nico, the record company found her & dragged her back out on the tour. Though she made her band miss several gigs & completely outraged Bill Arthag, the story of her disappearance & the way she was found generated even more interest in her band, so that even people who cannot name a single F Hole song know Jackie's name & face. Even Arthag had to admit it was 'an excellent stunt', though to Jackie, the need to flee the pressure was very real & not meant for public consumption. But even with all the good it did her band in terms of extra fame & more cds sold...now Jackie has record company appointed guards with her at all times, keeping her from slipping away from them again. They keep their eyes on Jackie, but her guitarist, it seems, is free to fly away on his own heroin addicted pursuits, and he is the next to take off on his band without informing anyone of his whereabouts . Once again, F Hole is missing concert dates & angering their fans, while MTV & the entertainment media have a field day reporting on the antics of Jackie & her band.

Matt, F Hole's drummer, is true punk to his core, but he's also the child of professional musicians, from the jazz world. And he's had about enough of stunts like Jackie & now their guitarist are pulling. Only one album & half a tour behind them, Matt is already threatening to leave if they don't shape up & concentrate on the music instead of their personal dramas.

Until her guitarist can be found, the tour is suspended. Indeed, many venues are cancelling outright, since F Hole cannot be counted on to stick to their tour schedule for more than a month. Jackie has seen herself compared to Axl Rose on a few entertainment shows now & she doesn't like it. She ran away from her tour, she didn't berate her fans or hit anyone on the head with a wine bottle, after all.

Now that she has some time to herself, to enjoy her fabulous new home in Malibu, the first thing on Jackie's mind is calling Nico & inviting him over to hang out in her huge but very empty house by the beach. But before she can pick up the phone to call him, it rings...it's Arthag & he's furious. "Did you see the latest WhooNoo?" he shouts at her. "I don't read that crap, Bill," she sighs, hoping she can get rid of him quickly: she'd really like to hear Nico's sexy accent right now. "Well, you're the cover story this week, Jackie: they did a tell all interview with that guy we found you in the mountains with. That bitch Monica had them dig up all kinds of dirt about you, about your father, Jackie, why the hell didn't you tell me who your father is by the way?....That little toy boy of yours is a loose cannon, Jackie. From now on, you are only to be seen with guys I approve." Jackie of course has no intention of having Bill Arthag vet her boyfriends, but she is very displeased to hear Nico did an interview about her. And if telling WhooNoo magazine how much she like whiskey weren't enough, now he's appearing on the Late Night with Charlie Chatterbox show, making jokes about her as though she meant nothing to him. He's having his fifteen minutes of fame at her expense, she thinks, and that was probably all he ever wanted from her.
