Gavin

Teary-eyed and angry, Astrid storms in, poking him on the chest, screaming at him, "You! My one important scene in this whole freaking movie, and YOU turn it into some dramafest about yourself! You should have gotten over it a long time ago, it should not be coming back to haunt me now!"

Gavin remembers now what it was like to be with Astrid, to be screeched at and poked all the time.

Gavin pokes her back: it always took her by surprise to have her own actions brought back to her. Astrid stands in stunned silence. "I'm over you, Astrid, I'm just not over how much I hate you," he says. "You knew how much I loved you & you broke my heart. You weren't even serious about me, sleeping around with Alison, treating me like some kind of plaything..."

"Oh, boohoo," Astrid pretends to cry, and then looks up, rolling her eyes & snorting with disdain. "You're pathetic," she says. She's told him that several times. Gavin goes through a complex suite of emotions: he'd loved this woman even when she was mean, petty & selfish, which was most of the time. He continued to love her even while he hated her, when she broke up with him. She's made him feel intense pain, and she's mocked him for feeling for her. What was it about Astrid that made him love her so much? He can't remember now. All that's left is a burning desire to slap her, a desire he knows is unhealthy to him, heart & soul, and which he can never indulge in.

"Let's hang out again real soon," Astrid coos to Shay, hugging her. Gavin doesn't like the look of this... "I'm sure we have so much to talk about," Astrid giggles as she squeezes Shay's arms. "I'll give you a call," she says, throwing a challenging look at him, and then grabs Chloe & demands to have her make up fixed.

"Are you going to make it through this okay?" Shay asks him, putting her comforting arm around him as soon as Astrid is gone. "Byron said you could have her fired." Gavin shakes his head & laughs. He hates Astrid enough to send her to Hell, he thinks, but he wouldn't get her fired. "Maybe I am overdramatic," he laughs. Shay laughs with him. "But you have great style & you carry it off so well," Shay says. He thought he was to have a fight on his hands with Shay, because he tried to kiss Astrid, but she's not yelling at him or accusing him of anything.

"Gavin, you're the same guy that crashed me into that swank Beverly Hills party & told me to act like I belonged there, right? You can do this," she smiles at him, caressing his cheek. Alison calls down to them, tells them Byron wants Gavin back on set in 2 minutes. Shay smiles up at him, adjusting the collar on the costume she made. "You know you can do this. Just forget about her...think about me. You're doing all this for me, right? So don't let her get involved & we'll be all right..."

They're calling for him: he has to go. But not before he kisses Shay. It gives him what he needs to go back up to that balcony & stand in front of Astrid and watch her look at him with love & concern, and remember it's not Astrid, it's an act.
