Gavin's a graduate student at Otis Parsons: he does large scale multi media installation pieces. He needs to get his design sketches into his professor before the end of the semester, but Xtina has got him down & he's not getting anything done. Since he can't work without thinking of her, he calls her & for once whoever picks it up actually get Xtina to come & talk to him. He invites her to the movies on Christmas: he knows she doesn't celebrate any holidays: she absolutely refuses to participate in society's traditions, so he figures she might enjoy seeing their favorite sci fi pic, 'The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch." Gavin expects Xtina to be derisive about everything, but when she says to him that they already saw 'Stigmata', doesn't he remember? he is cut to the quick. How could he not remember, the most intensely glorious night of his life, his first date with Xtina, the night he took her home & made love to her for 2 days straight? "Of course I remember, Xtina, it was our first date. I wanted to take you, again..." "That was not our first date," Xtina contradicts him. God, how can she say such things? He reminds her of how it was, and he finally gets to her, "I remember," she says, but she always has to be right, so she adds that they didn't really start dating until after that, whatever that means. But he gets her to agree to come to the movies with him, so, finally, he can free his mind long enough to work on his project, knowing he'll get his chance to pitch serious woo at Xtina during the holiday.

They meet in the cafe across from the movie theater. Since Gavin has her to himself for a few hours, he holds back on the romancing, saving it for later, after he's reminded her of how much they have in common, their favorite movie, for instance.

Gavin knows doing something as cliche as buying flowers is pretty risky with Xtina, but it's Christmas, & he can't help it..he sees the flowers & he must buy them. And he uses the opportunity to touch her hands as he gives her the flowers: he so misses her skin, that even just the quick caress of his fingers against hers makes him swoon. She must miss his touch as well, because she doesn't even snort at him when he gives her the flowers.

Gavin takes great hope when Xtina lets him put his arm around her. Though she puts up a stony exterior, he knows he can wear her down eventually. She will be his, he must only be patient & pursue.

After the movie they have dinner at Hastinapura. In the romantic privacy of the dining booth, Gavin exposes his heart to Xtina, telling her again how he needs her in his life.

"Please, Gavin, I broke up with you & I meant it. We can't be friends if you don't stop that shit." Gavin does not believe for a minute Xtina meant it when she broke up with him. Isn't she out with him now? She's going through a weird phase because she can't deal with her emotions, but she'll come around to him. He just has to keep on being there.....
