The residents of the 2 Echo Park houses frequently have parties & BBQs together. Their small circle of friends still inlcludes Xtina, even though she & Gavin are no longer together, she is still close to Eleanor, with whom she was friends before they even met. It put Gavin in a difficult position, explaining to Shay why his ex-girlfriend would be at the house party on Saturday. The best he could do was offer to take Shay out somewhere else & skip the party altogether, if she preferred. Shay decided that if Gavin feels ready to face his ex-girlfriend, then she can handle it, too. What Gavin did not expect is that Xtina would be bringing someone new of her own. Not that Gavin is jealous, on the contrary, the faster Xtina moves on, the more comfortable these parties will be for everyone. But this particular someone, this blond surfer guy from the Valley, is the last person anyone would expect Xtina to show up with, and Gavin is immediately worried about his ex-girlfriend, afraid that she's attached herself to the first guy that came her way, just to have someone to bring to the party. He doesn't want to see her have her heartbroken while she's on the rebound.....

But he can't be responsible for Xtina now, and he has Shay to look after. He certainly can't appear to be overly concerned with his ex in front of her.

And Gavin being Gavin, he ultimately finds it very easy to turn all his attention to his new love, barely noticing the old flame at all.

He & Shay might as well be alone here, for all he notices. They hardly mingle at all with his housemates & their few guests, keeping to themselves in their own corner.

But reality will intrude, and they are not actually alone here. Zach points out to him all the things he's been missing: Xtina & her surfer guy have been romancing it up all night like he & Shay, and check out Eleanor & Justin: it looks like Justin might score at last. And put to rest Diego's theory that Justin is gay....

Justin & Eleanor....that's something Gavin has been hoping to see for quite awhile. But Gavin is more interested in what is going on with Xtina and this new guy. So, excusing himself to Shay, he decides to strike up a conversation with the younger man & find out what exactly he is up to here. And after all, he is one of the many co-hosts of this party & he hasn't even greeted any guests all night....But though he meant well, it ultimately proves to be a bad move. After a few minutes of Gavin's questioning of her man, Xtina grabs him & leaves the party. And Gavin is left to face an infuriated Shay. "Why is her new boyfriend any of your business?" she wants to know. "Are you jealous?" Usually so good with words, Gavin just gets his foot caught in his mouth trying to explain he's just concerned about Xtina, being on the rebound and all. "I thought she broke up with you," Shay says, "So doesn't that make you the one 'on the rebound'? And what does that make me? Maybe I should just go home..." It takes some doing, but Gavin uses all his charm to keep Shay from taking off on him.
