Byron tried to summon Serena into his dream that night, though it would anger her, he wants to see her, and he fears going into dreams unprotected now. He finds himself in the castle set yard, with some weird bar prop that he recognizes from the library set inside. Expecting Serena will show up soon, he has a drink.

He gets a sinking feelin in his stomach, and creepy soundtrack music plays. Too brash, he thinks. He would fire this composer.

It's not Serena who visits his dream tonight, he gets Odessa instead. "I can give you the powers of a god...you just have to be my consort, and make me a star," she says, waving a wand in his face. Byron's movies are much better than this, he thinks. Her dialog is terrible.

Her wand turns into a jewel, dangling from a cord, which she dangles before his eyes. Can you hypnotize someone in a dream? Byron wonders.

"You think this is just a dream, a mirage," she yells suddenly, appearing behind him, thrusting her wand at him. "I may not be as real as I used to be, but I'm still real enough to destroy you," she snarls, and then drops her arm, "Or I can give you everything you've dreamed of, I still have the power left to do that, too. It's your choice."

Byron feels himself falling on his knees, being pulled down, really, by some unseen force. It truly is a nightmare, the kind where you can't move, now matter how hard you try.

Odessa has him down & he can't get up. "You will make me a star. I will have worshippers again," she says, gloating as she laughs. Stuck to the ground, Byron tries desperately to wake up.
