Updating SimPE to Mansions and Gardens

These instructions apply only to users who already have the latest, Apartment Life, SimPE installed.  That means version 0.72.0 or above.  If you do not already have 0.72.0 or above, please download and install the latest release before patching.

Very little needed to be done to SimPE Apartment Life version to make it compatible with Mansions and Gardens, so we have issued a small patch that just tweaks the configuration.

  1. Make sure SimPe is not running.
  2. Download the patch, SimpePatchToMG.zip and unzip it.
  3. Select and Copy the two folders: Data and Plugins that were inside the zip, or get them ready for dragging.
  4. Open your existing installed SimPE folder.  If you can see a file called SimPe.exe in it you have the right one.  (People who do not have file extensions turned on may see a file called only "SimPe" which will have an application icon).
  5. Paste or drag the two folders, Data and Plugins, from the zip you downloaded, into the folder that contains your SimPe.exe.
  6. Because there are already two folders called Data and Plugins in that folder, Windows will tell you "This folder already contains a folder named Plugins".  You should click the button labelled "Yes to All"
  7. When that process has finished, open the folder named Data that is in your SimPe folder.
  8. Delete the file named folders.xreg

When you next run SimPe, it should update your settings with everything needed for it to understand Mansions and Gardens.

**Alternatively, Numenor has kindly made a self-installer for this patch.  Simply download SimPE_MGPatchInstaller.exe and run it, but also do step 8 from the instructions above, afterwards!

Always back up your game data by setting aside a safe copy of My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Neighborhoods before each SimPe editing session.  Restore only by replacing the entire Neighborhoods folder.  Never use .bak files or individual .package files to restore data to the Neighborhoods folder.
